Why Do We Prepare?
In today's world, preparedness is not optional—it’s essential. The frequency of active shooter events and workplace violence continues to rise, making readiness a critical component of safety for organizations and individuals alike.
Rising Threats, Changing Realities
According to national data, the United States has experienced a steady increase in mass shooting incidents—with 11 incidents reported in 2017, and 12 each in both 2018 and 2022. While these large-scale events garner the most attention, they are not the most common threats.
The greater risk lies in everyday threats: disgruntled employees, agitated customers, interpersonal conflicts, and other localized acts of violence. These events occur far more frequently than mass attacks and affect a significantly larger portion of the population. Employers, schools, places of worship, and public venues must prepare not only for high-profile scenarios but for these more common and dangerous daily risks.
The Importance of Preparedness and Prevention
With a population exceeding 330 million, the odds of being involved in a mass attack remain statistically low—but complacency is not a strategy. Effective violence prevention starts with awareness, training, and a proactive mindset. Preparation empowers individuals and organizations to recognize early warning signs, de-escalate potentially violent situations, and respond appropriately in the event of a crisis.
Balancing Freedom and Security
America was founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—ideals that support an open, free society. But that openness also creates a vast network of soft targets, where vulnerability is high and preparedness is often lacking. Striking the right balance between freedom and safety requires thoughtful action, not fear-driven overcorrection.
The CRI Preparedness Program
The Crime Reduction Institute’s Preparedness Program equips individuals and organizations with the tools to assess risks, develop safety plans, and respond effectively to potential threats. Our training helps you protect your community while maintaining the freedoms that define our way of life.
Why do we train?
Training saves lives. Whether you’re a teacher, pastor, clerk, police officer, firefighter, soldier, or sailor, continuous training is essential to perform your role effectively—especially when facing the unexpected. At the Crime Reduction Institute (CRI), we believe that training for violence prevention and emergency response is the cornerstone of true preparedness.
Prepare to Survive—Train to Live
In high-stakes situations, your mindset determines your outcome. The way you respond in the critical first moments of a violent incident depends entirely on how well you've trained. When chaos erupts, your ability to make fast, informed decisions—driven by preparation, not panic—can mean the difference between life and death.
At CRI, our preparedness training program instills both the will to survive and the will to win. We go beyond theory, teaching real-world strategies that empower individuals and organizations to respond effectively and confidently in the face of violent threats.
The CRI Active Attack Response Model
Our proven response model is built on three life-saving principles:
This practical, action-based framework is adaptable across schools, churches, workplaces, government buildings, and public spaces—anywhere threats may emerge.
Prepared to Live. Trained to Respond.
At the Crime Reduction Institute (CRI), we believe in empowering individuals and organizations to live with confidence, freedom, and purpose. Our goal is simple: to ensure you and your team are prepared to face any critical incident—not with fear, but with clarity and conviction.
Live in the Moment—Prepared and Aware
To truly live in the present, you must first acknowledge a fundamental truth: evil exists. There are threats in the world—wolves among us—and ignoring them doesn’t make them go away. Preparedness is peace of mind. When you and your staff are trained to respond decisively, you carry the confidence that comes from knowing exactly what to do when danger strikes.
CRI will teach you how to act with purpose in a moment of crisis—whether that means speaking up, taking cover, or taking action. Our methods are practical, effective, and designed for every environment: workplaces, schools, churches, and public institutions.
Training for Freedom and Responsibility
Freedom is not granted by governments or institutions—it is inherent. It comes from natural law, rooted in the world around us. At CRI, we emphasize the importance of individual responsibility, situational awareness, and leadership under pressure.
We teach with an abundance mindset, believing that when individuals are empowered, communities grow stronger together. A rising tide lifts all boats—and a culture of preparation lifts us all toward a safer, freer society.
Why CRI?
The Crime Reduction Institute (CRI) provides a comprehensive, multi-level emergency preparedness and response training program tailored to businesses, churches, schools, healthcare providers, and public institutions. Our program combines expert consulting, practical training, and scenario-based learning to empower your team to respond confidently to any threat—from workplace violence to natural disasters.
